How to Choose the Perfect Pickleball Paddle

How to Choose the Right Pickleball Paddle

Your paddle is the most important piece of equipment. Here is everything you need to know to pick the perfect one.

1. Weight

  • Light (6.5-7.3 oz): Better maneuverability, excellent for soft game and quick exchanges at the net. Recommended for beginners and players who prioritize control.
  • Medium (7.4-8.0 oz): The sweet spot. Good balance of power and control. Suitable for most intermediate players.
  • Heavy (8.1+ oz): Maximum power. Better for strong players who generate their own spin. Can cause fatigue during long sessions.

2. Core Material

  • Polymer Honeycomb: Most common. Quiet, soft feel, great control. Best for 90% of players.
  • Nomex Honeycomb: Stiffer, louder, more power. Preferred by advanced players.
  • Aluminum Honeycomb: Stiff feel, good power but less control. Being phased out by most brands.

3. Shape & Size

  • Standard (8 x 15.5): Classic shape, balanced sweet spot
  • Elongated (8 x 16.5): Longer reach, more leverage but narrower sweet spot
  • Wide Body (8.5 x 15.5): Wider face, bigger sweet spot, less reach
